They're meeting in an outdoor cafe, and not the Hotel. The Hotel would be nice because of the prohibition on violence, but it's too public in the lobby these days, and going to Gene and Tony's shared room would just be awful on so many levels. So they're at a cafe in the Water Sector. Specifically, Tony and Howard are there. Gene hasn't arrived yet. Just as planned; they need to introduce this gradually, starting with the first meeting on neutral ground.

Depending on how this one goes, the reveal of Gene and Tony's relationship may happen sooner or much, much later.

Tony is bouncing his foot nervously on the pavement and gripping his tea mug tight enough to turn his knuckles white. The tea is supposed to be a calming blend. It's not working so far.

This feels like a bad idea. Tony knows that it's not - the three of them can't keep up the exhausting Never-Put-Gene-And-Howard-In-The-Same-Room-Together routine forever. Some kind of reconciliation, or at least a truce, has to be made for Tony and his dad and his ex-nemesis-turned-boyfriend to all coexist on the same turtle. So. That's what this is. A chance for Gene and Howard to get to know each other again, and for Howard to see that Gene has changed. A necessary first step in lessening the tension between the three of them.

That doesn't mean Tony's looking forward to it.

He glances at his dad and clears his throat nervously. "You're still okay with this, right?" he asks, almost hoping Howard will say 'no' and call the whole thing off.
